Complex Cases
Dr. Smigel treats complex cases related to spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, strokes and other chronic medical problems that causes impairments and disabilities that affect the physical, emotional, psychological, social and vocational aspect of a person’s life. She coordinates rehabilitation of such complex cases.
Consultation and medical management of a full range of complex, difficult or chronic medical problems and design and implement the rehabilitation with a team of health care providers, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dietician, social worker and psychologist. Dr Smigel will also communicate with other medical specialists to manage complex medical/neurological /orthopedic /cancer/ surgical issues. She will address rehabilitation and recovery issues in the home, hospital, nursing home or outpatient setting.
Facilitate communication between the medical team members and keep the patient/family informed.
Medical case management.
At the request of the patient, Dr Smigel will assist with the integration of complementary/alternative medical services (prolotherapy, acupuncture, massage, herbals, psychological mindfulness etc.) into the highly technical medical system in the US.
